Entries are invited from all bands who perform Bluegrass or Old Time Mountain Music. All competitor bands will send a recording (CD preferred) of their music along with a registration form to the Entertainment Committee address.

All entry recording must be received by or before September 5, 2008 to be included in the pre-competition judging. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Twenty bands will be selected form the recording entries by a panel of independent judges. These 20 bands will move on to the Semi-Final Round which will be held on September 13, 2008. Bands moving on to the Semi-Final round will be required to pay a $45 entry fee. Entry fees will be sent to the Entertainment Committee address.

All bands moving to the Semi-Final round will be notified by September 9, 2008.

Semi-Final and Final Rounds

The semi-finals and finals will be held on the afternoon and evening of September 13, 2008, during the Wilder Days' Festival. The twenty bands selected from the Preliminary Round will compete and SIX will be selected to move on to the Final Round.

Contestants are required to use one stage mic for the semi-final and final rounds
Bands may consist of three to six members.
Music Style will be Bluegrass, Old Time, or Mountain music
Bands will be allowed 15 minutes to perform. Judges will mark points off for bands who significantly exceed the time limit.
Each band will play 2 songs. The two selections will be the following types: 1. Slow vocal song and 2. Fast tempo instrumental song Bands moving on to the final round will again perform these types of songs.
Songs performed during the semi-finals are not allowed during the finals.
No electric instruments or pick-ups allowed. Only one mic will be provided for each band.
No drum sets or standing percussion will be allowed.

Scoring of Bands in Semi-Finals and Finals

Scoring will be based on a 100 point system
30% Material Selection (taste, difficulty, authenticity, originality...)
30% Instrumental Performance (ability of soloists and overall instrumental blend)
30% Vocal Performance (lead and harmony)
10% Stage Presence

Kickin' Up Grass Prizes

FIRST PLACE = $1000 cash prize plus appointment for a professional recording session for the winning song.
SECOND PLACE = $300 cash prize
THIRD PLACE = $200 cash prize
PRIZES AWARDED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE FINAL ROUND
